Artificial Superintelligence
On 22 September 2026, at 09:55 EDT, Donald J. Trump, President of the United States, announced at the UN General Assembly that the US will replace the term artificial intelligence (AI) with super intelligence (SI). However, the term artificial superintelligence (ASI) already exists, and it means a machine that outperforms humans at virtually everything. But to this date, nobody has built such a machine. This site explores some implications of Trump's rebranding initiative. Calling AI "super intelligence" is not so much an error in vocabulary as it is about timing.

Trump asked followers on X and Truth Social to pick a new name for AI, then announced “super intelligence” at the UN. The term already has decades of research behind it: intelligence far beyond human ability across almost every domain. A vote on a name cannot establish that capability.

Trump’s AI adviser co-founded a firm that backs a superintelligence startup
Safe Superintelligence, a startup co-founded by OpenAI co-founder and former chief scientist Ilya Sutskever, was reportedly valued at $32 billion in April 2025. Among its investors is Andreessen Horowitz, whose co-founder Marc Andreessen advises Trump and helped fund his election effort. Trump can rename AI. Europe’s law still calls it artificial.
Trump says “artificial” makes AI sound fake. The EU’s AI Act uses the term across all 24 official languages, where it describes the technology’s origin. Calling a system “superintelligence” changes neither its capabilities nor the legal definitions that determine whether the law applies.

Superintelligence in Domain Names
Our study examines domain names selected before their registration dates were inspected. In the sample, 17 of 65 cognition-related .si names were registered on 19–26 June 2024, compared with one of 61 comparison names. The period begins on the day Safe Superintelligence was announced.
The pattern is limited to these lists. The records do not establish buyers’ motives, causation or a change across the wider domain market.
